ABOUT ME
Hello foodies, I’m Aysha; I’m a mother of two, a devoted wife, a trained Montessori teacher, a philanthropist of many good causes and I love food. The kitchen is where I spend most of my time cooking good wholesome food that caters for every taste buds in my home. Understanding that food is an essential medicine, the key ingredient towards creating a wealthier life is what ultimately kick started my passion for cooking and here’s my story in a nutshell!

Just like the food I present, my roots are diverse and full of spice, life and love. Born in India but originally from Kenya, I moved to the UK as a little child, and grew up in a home full of aroma, colourful dishes and delicious home cooking. Mum did all the cooking and entertaining, by the time I was a teen I started to take an interest in the kitchen, not too much but enough to help out with everyday cooking.

I got married in 1994 to Adam, who was and still is my best friend and a loving, caring husband, he also grew up in a family of food lovers. My mother in law is known to be a great chef within the community so dishing up tasty wholesome recipes became challenging but encouraged my passion to experiment and satisfy.

However, when my son was diagnosed with severe Crohn’s disease in 2006 at the tender age of 9, I took a determined step to investigate the science behind food; his diet needed urgent adaptation and so did my cooking if I were to see him live a happier and healthier life! Crohn’s disease is a lifelong condition in which parts of the digestive system become inflamed. This causes diarrhoea, excruciating stomach aches and cramps, blood in your stool, tiredness and weight loss. Feeling like a completely helpless mother at the time, I could no longer just rely on the NHS alone and I could not continue to watch him suffer with this unbearable pain. After spending a lot of our time in and out of the GP’s surgery and hospital, I suddenly had an awakening, where my gut instinct literally kicked me in into taking action – that I could do something to ease my son’s pain by changing the way I cooked and the ingredients I was using. This drove me to take on a long lifeadventure in the kitchen with him in toe; where we both started to experiment with ingredients to create fun and exciting recipes that not only aroused the eye, but also sparked every taste bud and sensual organ going, and most importantly – food that he could eat without reacting.

Together, my son and I have compiled a variety of unique creations of our own and in this blog, you’ll encounter fragments of both our imagination, Gut -friendly cuisines, as well as traditional and mouth-watering recipes inspired by an infusion of many cultures and garnished with love.
